Our Mission and Purpose:
To utilize tools derived from contemplative practices and Psychology to ease the friction and discomfort high functioning neurodivergent adults have navigating a neurotypical world

InTune Los Angeles meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of the Month 7pm-8:30 pm Pacific time on Zoom. Facilitated by Pete Grella. we focus on Neurodivergences  like, autism, ADHD and other neurodivergent issues. Pete Grella has completed InSightLA's meditation facilitator program and has been diagnosed with autism.

In Tune is a community for high functioning neurodivergent adults that utilizes Buddhist Mindfulness practices to promote self-acceptance and more fulfilling personal relationships.

 

In Tune offers inclusive events for education, inspiration, and support.  

 

Led by peers, licensed therapists, and teachers of Buddhist techniques, In Tune offers:

  • Meditation practices to relieve stress and focus the mind.

  • Communication techniques to support successful interactions.

  • Tools for emotional resiliency and regulation.

 

Sample topics include:

  • WHY small talk?

  • -- What is the purpose of small talk. What is going on and how it can be beneficial rather than draining.

  • How to deal with black and white thinking.

  • -- Learn how our brain distorts our perception of what is happening

  • How to develop mastery with emotional and sensory overload.

  • -- How mitigate the effects and frequency of meltdowns and explore the causes and triggers of emotional events.

Why we meditate:

 

Our brains are programmed to be constantly active. We can have recurrent thoughts that can have a detrimental effect on our well being. Repetitive thoughts create neural pathways that our brains will gravitate to, much like how a constant stream of water will create grooves onto rock. Mediation will create new neural pathways so we can release ourselves from the trap of our negative thought patterns, and allows us to navigate a neurotypical world with more mastery and ease. The more you meditate, the more easily you will recognize when you are lost in thought and won’t be controlled by your thinking. There is a book by Dan Harris on meditation titled 10% Happier, that is an appropriate metric, 10% improvement after a year of work.


 

Why Vipassana Meditation:

 

Vipassana Meditation is real time present awareness meditation, where you focus on an object in your present time awareness, usually the breath. This type of meditation can be done in your everyday life, while walking down the street, or while working.  There are many types of meditation that are helpful, but we utilize Vipassana Meditation due to its simplicity and effectiveness.

What to expect:

 

You will be in a community of people with shared experiences.  You’ll be guided in a 30 minute meditation practice with clear instructions.  After the meditation there will be an opportunity to ask questions about your experience, followed by an hour discussion regarding being Neurodivergent and Mindfulness.  The whole class will last about an hour and a half and is donation based.

has completed InsightLA's year long Mediation Facilitator training program. He has been meditating and studying secular Buddhism for the past 10 years, starting at Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society, also at Insight LA and Spirit Rock Meditation Center. He’s studied with Trudy Goodman, Mary Stancavage, Joanna Hardy, Pablo Das, Philip Moffit and Noah Levine. He’s attended numerous meditation retreats and workshops on Authentic Relating, communication, and skillful intimacy.  Pete has also been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, and after experiencing his own transformation using the tools of Buddhist Meditation, is an avid proponent of meditation as a resource for adults on the spectrum. He has a degree in Applied Mathematics from UCLA.

Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
